New setback for Lions captain

INJURY UPDATE: As the saying goes: 'It never rains but it pours.'

Lions captain and No.8 Warren Whiteley has suffered another setback and will miss his teams Super Rugby Round 16 match against the Stormers in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Whiteley sat out training on Tuesday with kidney stones and a bruised knee.

Whiteley has only featured in four of the Lions 15 matches during their 2019 campaign.

He first tore his pectoral muscle against the Stormers in February, before he bruised his knee.

Now the 31-year-old has been forced to sit out training until his kidney stones have passed.

Whiteley did not feature for the Lions during their 17-27 defeat against the Sharks last Saturday, after failing to recover from a bruised knee.

He also did not feature for the Johannesburg-based side during their 38-29 victory against the Highlanders at Ellis Park Stadium in a Round 14 match in May.

Word coming out of the Lions camp is that Whiteley is getting rest at home and he is being treated in order for the kidney stones to naturally pass.

Whiteley will return to training once his kidney stones have passed and he is no longer in severe pain from his bruised knee.

He will definitely miss the game against the Stormers on Saturday.
