Sharks won't drop their guard against 'Canes

The New Zealand outfit outplayed the Lions in Johannesburg in Round 10 and came away with a 50-17 bonus-point victory.

The Hurricanes will now be looking to make it two wins from two on their short South African tour, when they face the Sharks.

However, Sharks loose forward Jean Deysel says they have learnt a few things from their opponents' outing at Ellis Park.

"What we will take out of that game, is to not drop your guard," said Deysel.

"In this competition if you are off by an inch, you miss it completely.

"You only get so many opportunities and if you don't take them you get punished - if you are out by an inch you will get 50 points [against you].

"There is no easy games in this competition. We will take that from the Lions game and just come out firing as best we can on Saturday."

Deysel hinted that the Sharks will have a few tricks up their sleeves to shut out the Hurricanes.

"We have a plan for them," the veteran loose forward said.

"We will just try and play a bit with the ball and get our territory game right and just do our best on the weekend. Every weekend is a new test.

"The biggest thing is just to get our game and minds right and hopefully we will come away with a win," he added.

Meanwhile, the 31-year-old veteran said he is enjoying the competition amongst the loose forwards in the squad.

Twin brothers, Daniel and Jean-Luc du Preez, have impressed with their performances this season, while Keegan Daniel, Philip van der Walt and Marcel Coetzee [before in season ending injury] also put in some standout performances this year.

"The Du Preez twins are going to be phenomenal for this union," said Deysel.

"For me just to be a part of it and pass on knowledge down to them, is enjoyable.

"Competition is never a bad thing - it brings out the best in myself and it brings out the best in everybody in your position. You just try and pass on [knowledge] as much as you can and we really enjoying each other's company as well."
