Soccer City gets big rugby games

SUPER RUGBY NEWS: South Africa's Super Heroes day has been moved to Johannesburg.

It was confirmed on Thursday that the highly-successful day - involving the Lions, Bulls, Stormers and Sharks - will take place at Soccer City in Soweto on Sunday, January 19.

The decision to move it from Cape Town, which was a sellout this year, will see the potential ticket sale nearly double - to 90,000.

The teams will feature in the same comic characters as last year - Captain America (Bulls), Thor (Stormers), Spiderman (Lions) and Black Panther (Sharks).

The pre-season event takes place less than two weeks before the Super Rugby season gets underway on January 31.

The Sharks and Stormers will kick off the action at 13.00 (11.00 GMT), followed by the match between the Bulls and Lions at 15.15 (13.15 GMT).

A number of the Springboks World Cup heroes will be in attendance.

Tickets start at ZAR60, with a special group offer of four tickets for only ZAR200.

Tickets for Super Hero Sunday will be available from Friday, November 29 at Computicket outlets and online nationwide.

A public transport and parking plan, which will include free parking in designated parking areas around the stadium, and park and ride services from Pretoria and Johannesburg, will also be in place.

"We have a new generation of heroes in South Africa ready to make their mark in Super Rugby in 2020," said Mark Alexander, President of SA Rugby.

"With three new coaches and a host of exciting new players stepping up to the plate, I’m sure the four South African franchises will want to build on the Springboks’ achievements this year.

"We’ve seen a re-energised enthusiasm for rugby in South Africa in recent months and that will spill over into 2020, when Super Rugby will continue to impress with breathtaking rugby between the best players in the Southern Hemisphere."

The first match involving South African teams the tournament proper will see the Sharks host the Bulls in Durban on Friday, January 31.

A day later, Saturday, February 1, the Stormers host the Hurricanes in Cape Town, while the Lions take on the Jaguares in Buenos Aires.
