VIDEO: Crusaders skipper Read set to return

INJURY UPDATE: New Zealand captain Kieran Read has been cleared for this Friday’s Super Rugby clash between the Crusaders and Hurricanes in Wellington.

Read, who has been out of action for four months due to back surgery, was training with the reigning champions in Christchurch on Monday.

The skipper’s recovery is certainly a good sign  for the Crusaders following their 12-20 defeat to Waratahs in Sydney.

"He's available for selection," Crusaders forwards coach Jason Ryan confirmed the news to the New Zealand media.

"His back's feeling good, he’s been good mentally as well, which is important."

Prop Owen Franks, who had been scheduled to play his 150th Super Rugby match, was a late withdrawal because of a shoulder problem, while lock Scott Barrett and flyhalf Richie Mo’unga were rested under All Blacks player management protocols.

However, All three of the All Blacks should be available for Friday’s clash.

While for the Hurricanes, Ngani Laumape, TJ Perenara and Dane Coles expected to be named after being rested for the side’s 34-28 win over the Stormers in the weekend.
