VIDEO: Stormers searching for 'balance' in Kimberley

The return of flyer Sergeal Petersen, after a lengthy injury lay-off, is giving the Stormers attack some extra sting.

However, coach Rito Hlungwani said this does not signal a move towards a more expansive game.

They continue their Preparation Series when they travel to Kimberley to face Griquas this coming Tuesday in a rare midweek game.

Hlungwani said it is important that they 'impose' themselves on their hosts.

"We need to continue building on our game model and improve our playing style," said the man - who is taking charge of Tuesday's game as part of a rotation policy for the coaching panel.

He made it clear that making good decisions are going to be key in Kimberly.

"We are going to play a balanced game.

"We want to make good decisions."

He said the experience of Petersen will assist them to achieve their goals.

"We believe Sergeal [Petersen] can make good decisions on the field.

"He will know when to kick and when to run.

"We want to be a well-balanced team We all know Sergeal is exciting with ball in hand, but he can also kick."

Petersen, who played 50-odd games for the Bloemfontein-based Cheetahs before moving to Cape Town in 2018, said he is 'familiar' with that part of the world.

He expects the Griquas to be inhospitable hosts.

"We know it is not going to be easy in Kimberley, but we are well prepared for what is coming on Tuesday."

Hlungwani said that the trip up to Kimberley will be a challenge that the players must embrace.

"Griquas are always highly motivated when they play us and we are looking forward to rising to meet that challenge," the coach added.

"It has been a good week of preparations and everyone is excited to get to Kimberley and show what we have planned," he said.
