VIDEO: White very 'chuffed' with young Bulls
REACTION: Despite a very pleasing performance by the young Bulls team, Director of Rugby Jake White admitted there are still one or two things that could do with some improvement.
The Bulls scored seven tries to claim a 48-31 win over the Pumas in Nelspruit on Tuesday.
Jake White's men used their powerful scrums and maul to great effect and recorded their second consecutive win of the Preparations Series.
The win was so much sweeter given their shock 14-44 defeat during their last trip to Nelspruit in the Currie Cup.
Despite Tuesday's the scoreline, the Bulls were forced to work hard as they leaked four tires including a penalty try during the high scoring encounter.
"If you get on the right side of the scoreboard, then a high scoring match is always good," Bulls coach White told the media after the match in Nelspruit.
"But I don’t think the defence coach would be so happy, either defence coaches."
He explained: "Having said that, I personally think defensively we were much better in the second half. We let them score 17 points in the first 20 minutes and they didn’t score anything until the 70th minute. That was great defensive work in the second stanza."
With the Bulls' senior men on much-needed rest, White said his young side, which includes players like Stravino Jacobs, Jan-Hendrik Wessels and Reinhardt Ludwig, were impressive and are a very solid base on which to build the future.
"The thing I enjoyed most was the average age of our team was 22," White said.
"We had a boy [Reinhardt Ludwig] who matriculated at Affies last year and Jan Hendrik who is still Under-20 and that is what I’m chuffed about - it’s the depth in our squad going forward.
"We going to have a good team if we managed to keep them at the Bulls,"
