White already scouting for 'new' Bulls

NEWS: Former Springboks head coach Jake White's move to the Bulls appears imminent - now more than ever.

Earlier this month, Alfons Meyer, the Chief Executive Officer of the Blue Bulls Company, confirmed that White was on the Bulls’ radar to replace the now-departed Alan Zondagh as Director of Rugby, who returned to the Western Cape for personal reasons.

While the Bulls have yet to make the announcement, a recent report by Netwerk24, revealed the only obstacle delaying White's appointment as the Bulls' new director of Rugby is the global Coronavirus pandemic.

"If it wasn’t for the coronavirus disruption, we’d have made the announcement already," Meyer told Netwert24.com when asked about White's appointment.

Meyer added that an official announcement will be made before the end of March.

Meanwhile, it is believed that White has already identified several overseas-based players he wants to lure to Pretoria, with locks Jason Jenkins, Gerbrandt Grobler and Jacques du Plessis on top of his recruitment list.

Jenkins is a former Bulls stalwart and played under White at Verblitz club in Japan, while Du Plessis, who can also play flank, is also a former Bull and played under White at Montpellier in France.

The 56-year-old's presence will certainly be a major boost for the Bulls, especially given his impressive credentials.

White, who also won an Under-21 World Cup with the Baby Boks in 2002, ended a three-year stint with Verblitz in the Japan Top League.

After his success with South Africa from 2004 to 2007 – which included a Tri-Nations championship to go with the World Cup – he also coached the Brumbies, Sharks and Montpellier.
