VIDEO: 'Tahs target Lions' scalp

The Waratahs secured a 37-16 bonus-point win over the Reds in the Australian interstate derby.

The win puts the 'Tahs at the top of the Australian derby - overtaking the Rebels, who lost to the Jaguares.

Thus far the New South Wales side have beaten all their Australian conference rivals and are currently on a four-match winning streak.

However, the Waratahs coach Daryl Gibson has warned his side not to let the wins over Australians rivals overshadow their focus and preparations for last year's Super Rugby finalist the Lions.

"Facing the Lions is going to be completely different," Gibson told reported after the match.

"It's going to require a different approach to win the game. They have strength in different areas,"

Waratahs captain Michael Hooper shared the coach's sentiments and acknowledged is going to be a massive challenge.

"I am excited to face the Lions at home," Hooper said, adding: "They are a good team. They got big guys and they're able to move the ball around.

"I expect a huge challenge from the best South African team.

"Think with a short turn-around we have to get our stuff right," Hooper added.

The Waratahs outscored the Reds four tries to one. Waratahs wing Taqele Naiyaravoro lit up the Sydney Cricket Ground as he scored two tries, while scrumhalf Jake Gordon and replacement Harry Johnson-Holmes added their names to the scoresheet.

"We’re really chasing that 80-minute performance," Gibson said, adding: "We felt at times we lacked that ball control that we've been striving for and also that ball control that leads to pressure on ourselves.

"Our bench has been amazing this year,"

In terms of injuries, Rob Simmons (sternum) and Will Miller (shoulder) are cleared of any serious injuries, while Michael Wells (shoulder) could miss the clash against the Lions this Saturday.
