Benetton signs Los Pumas legend

NEWS: Weeks after retiring from Los Pumas, the former Argentine captain Agustin Creevy has signed to play in the United Rugby Championship (URC) for Italian team Benetton.

The former Argentina captain has been the heart and soul of the Los Pumas for the last decade.

In August his international journey came full circle during the Rugby Championship when he became the protagonist in their victory of the White and Sky Blue over the All Blacks and Australia.

The 39-year-old hooker boasts an unparalleled curriculum that includes the Top 14 in France, the English Premiership, Super Rugby and now the URC.

Teams he formerly represented include Biarritz, Clermont, Montpellier, Worcester Warriors, London Irish, Sale Sharks and Los Jaguares.

Creevy joins fellow Argentinian internationals Thomas Gallo, Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro, Lautaro Bazán Vélez, Tomás Albornoz, and Ignacio Mendy at Benetton.

So too do the uncapped Bautista Bernasconi and Italian-capped Argentine players Juan Ignacio Brex and Iván Nemer.

Creevy retired from international competition in August and had the honor of earning his final, and 110th, cap for Argentina in his hometown of La Plata.

In addition to Benetton, Creevy also had offers from clubs in England and France.

But it is with the national team that Creevy wrote the most memorable chapters of his career through his participation in four World Cups in 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023, including two semifinals.

His longevity saw him set a new Argentine record for matches played in World Cups.

"I am happy to be part of the Treviso family.

"It's a club where there are many of my friends and above all, I have a lot of respect for the team.

"The URC is the only tournament I have left to play in my career, and personally Italy is a country that I like.

"Its people and history make it an incredible place to live and especially to play rugby. My goal is to play a lot, have fun, be able to share my experience with the younger guys, and fight to aim for great goals," Creevy commented.
