Stormers flyer learns his fate after high shot on Nohamba
NEWS: The Stormers have been dealt a blow ahead of their quarterfinal match against the Glasgow Warriors.
Stormers wing Angelo Davids has learnt his fate following a red card for a dangerous tackle on Lions flyhalf Sanele Nohamba in this past weekend's Round 18 clash at Cape Town Stadium.
Davids, who had a stellar match was shown a red card by referee Marius van der Westhuizen in the 48th minute under Law 9.13 - A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously.
Dangerous tackles include, but is not limited to tackling or attempting to tackle an opponent above the line of the shoulders even if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders.
The disciplinary process resulted in a three-game suspension for Davids.
Davids accepted the Judicial Officer overseeing the disciplinary process, Ben Rutherford's decision that he committed an act of foul play which warranted a red card.
The incident met the red card threshold and warranted a mid-range entry point of six weeks as found by Rutherford.
Davids received three weeks mitigation due to his good disciplinary record, his early acceptance of the red card and immediate apology to Nohamba.
Davids has the option to complete World Rugby's coaching intervention programme which would see his sanction be reduced by one week which would make him eligible for selection should the Stormers reach the URC final.
David's playing schedule is dependent on the Stormers' URC quarterfinal result against Glasgow Warriors.
As a result, the Judicial Officer requested historical information from the Stormers in relation to their policy of sending players back to their WPRFU clubs prior to the Currie Cup.
The Stormers provided evidence to the Judicial officer that should they not progress to the URC final, Davids, who missed a chunk of the season due to injury, would return to his club for game time as has occurred with other Stormers players returning from injury in previous seasons.
