Lions, Sharks suffer DC setback
NEWS: Two South African players have been slapped with bans that will rule them out of the crucial last round of the United Rugby Championshgip.
Lions replacement loose forward Ruan Venter has been slapped with a four-match foul play ban.
The disciplinary process related to Venter's red card in the URC Round 17 game against Glasgow Warriors last Saturday resulted in a four-match ban.
After an act of foul play by Venter, referee Craig Evans showed the player a red card in the 35th minute of the game under Law 9.13: A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously.
Dangerous tackling includes, but is not limited to, tackling or attempting to tackle an opponent above the line of the shoulders even if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders.
In the player's responses to the judicial officer overseeing the disciplinary process (Tommy Dalton), he had accepted that he had committed an act of foul play which warranted a red card.
Dalton found that the incident met the red card threshold, with the entry of mid-range warranting six weeks.
The Player received two weeks' mitigation due to his apology, good record and participation in the disciplinary process resulting in a four-match suspension.
Should the Player complete the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Programme the sanction will be reduced by one week.

The Disciplinary process related to the Tino Mavesere red card in the URC Round 17 game against Cardiff last Saturday has resulted in a three-match ban
After an act of foul play by Sharks player No.6, Mavesere, referee Frank Murphy showed the player a red card in the 19th minute of the game under Law 9.13: A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously.
Dangerous tackling includes, but is not limited to, tackling or attempting to tackle an opponent above the line of the shoulders even if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders.
In the Player's responses to the judicial officer overseeing the disciplinary process (Rose Alice Murphy), he had accepted that he had committed an act of foul play which warranted a red card.

The Player received three weeks (50 percent) mitigation due to his good record and apology resulting in a three-match game suspension.
