Bulls’ plan for world-class De Allende

SPOTLIGHT: Springbok centre Damian De Allende will have a huge target on his back when Munster take on the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

De Allende has been included in the Munster travelling squad following a long lay-off due to an abdomen injury. The star centre is set to return to action for the first time this year.

Since joining Munster in 2020, De Allende has been a standout performer and his inclusion is a major boost for the Irish giants.

However, knowing how lethal the Bok can be, the Bulls have been creating plans to nullify his impact.

"Damian [De Allende] is world-class No.12, and he does add a different dynamic to the Munster team," Bulls flyhalf Chris Smith told reporters.

“A lot of [Munster's]  game plan is going to revolve around him.

"He is a big ball-carrier, but also has great feet and an unbelievable pass. So to cut him out of the game is going to be pretty tough.

"But if we can get two guys on him to close his space and hopefully put him under pressure we can perhaps benefit."

Munster will be missing some players due to injury and international duty, however, Smith does not underestimate the Irish province.

Johann Van Graan’s men are currently third on the URC overall log, while the Bulls are in 11th place.

"Most of the international players are with the Ireland six Nations team. However, they still have guys with international experience.

"They are world-class outfit and have had a really good run of recent results.

"We will definitely have to be at our best if we want to put Munster to the sword."
