Cardiff officials investigating 'appalling' player behaviour at pub
REACTION: Cardiff 'representatives' will meet with the management of a local pub on Monday, following some apparent 'appalling behaviour' by some players at the establishment over the weekend.
Cardiff Rugby, in a statement on Sunday, confirmed that they are aware of an alleged incident that took place in a city centre pub on Saturday.
The Welsh capital side were beaten 31-18 by South Africa's Lions at the Arms Park this past Friday - giving the visitors a Welsh double, having edged Ospreys 28-27 the weekend before.
However, it appears Cardiff players may have taken their frustrations out on a pub in down a day after their loss.
According to a report by the WalesOnline website, some players headed out on a team social in the city on Saturday.
The behaviour of some at The Grange on Penarth Road, Grangetown, has now sparked an internal probe amid claims of "shameful" conduct.
An account of the alleged incident was shared online on Reddit by an apparent staff member from the pub and while it has since been deleted, a screenshot of the claims have been circulated elsewhere on social media.
In a screenshot of the post shared to Twitter, entitled "Cardiff Blues (sic) team causing chaos in Grangetown pub", the author claimed: "I work at a pretty popular pub in Grangetown. Last night the Cardiff Blues (sic) team came in and a few of them engaged in some appalling behaviour.
"Two of the forwards were extremely aggressive and were threatening the barstaff (sic) with violence as they had been asked to leave... This team is meant to represent my city and its (sic) quite shameful to see them behave this way. I cannot imagine what they're like in other cities, nevermind their hometown."
A statement from the Welsh region issued on Sunday said: "Cardiff Rugby are aware of an alleged incident that took place in a city centre pub on Saturday. The club have made contact with the pub in question and a meeting will be held tomorrow [Monday, October 3] with Cardiff Rugby representatives and the pub's management in attendance to ascertain the full facts. Cardiff Rugby does not condone the alleged behaviour and the appropriate action will be taken should the allegations be confirmed. No further comments will be made at this time."
