Leinster get double boost for Munster showdown

INJURY NEWS: Leinster head coach Leo Cullen has issued a positive injury update ahead of Tuesday’s United Rugby Championship match against Munster in Thomond Park.

Cullen released an injury report revealing that scrumhalf Luke McGrath and wing Tommy O’Brien have returned to full training ahead of the big Irish derby with Munster.

McGrath has missed the last two months after he suffered a knee injury during Leinster’s opening-round defeat against Glasgow Warriors, while O’Brien was ruled out for the last five weeks with an ankle injury.

The pair will be available to Cullen and Jacques Nienaber as they seek to beat URC champions Munster in their own backyard.

Harry Byrne and Jason Jenkins will need further assessments.

Byrne is currently following return-to-play protocols after a head injury in Leinster’s victory at La Rochelle in the Champions Cup, while South African lock Jenkins was withdrawn at half-time of last weekend’s victory over Sale Sharks with a minor back issue.

All Black Charlie Ngatai picked up a calf injury against Sale Sharks and will be unavailable for selection this week.

Leinster revealed there are no further updates on Cormac Foley (shoulder), Ross Byrne (arm), Jamie Osborne (shoulder) and John McKee (hamstring).
