The Sharks signed Springbok utility Francois Hougaard on a short-term deal, the Durban side announced on their social media platforms on Sunday.

The 35-year-old Bulls player – who started out at scrumhalf, but often also featured on the wing – played in 46 Tests between 2009 and 2017.

He will help the Sharks boost their backline stocks during the World Cup, when two of their scrumhalves are on duty for the Springboks in France.

Jaden Hendrikse and Grant Williams are with the Boks in France, leaving the Sharks a bit thin regarding their No.9 resources.
