Kovsies League commences on Friday

Action in the Kovsies Steinhoff Koshuisliga commences on Friday after a near two-month break.

The University of the Free State Under-19 team play their final match in the competition when they do battle with the 2009 Steinhoff Koshuisrugby champions, Armentum.

No team has been able to secure a win over the U19s as yet and Armentum - despite their success earlier in the year - are facing a tough assingment.

A third loss for Armentum, currently lying forth on the log, could see teams like JBM and Vishuis (joint second on the log) extend their lead over them.

Vishuis and Veritas became the first hostel teams since Armentum earlier in the year to play at the new-look Shimla Park which has undergone a transformation over the last couple of months with brand-new floodlights and beautiful green grass.

Veritas desperatly need any possible inspiration as they have not looked like winning a match since their narrow lose to Armentum in the very first round. They will be desperate to avoid the wooden spoon for the second year running.

Meanwhile, also at 8pm on field 5, JBM Hertzog and Karee will do battle.

Last year's encounters between the two sides were very even, Karee going down 9-10 and then winning the re-match 16-10.

Log leaders Heimat have a bye this week.
