Maroela on track - again
Defending champions Maroela are still on course for yet another title in Tukkies' Steinhoff Winter Hostel League.
Maroela registered their third win on Tuesday, May 12 - beating Taaibos 18-8. They are the only unbeaten team in Group X, having so far earned a maximum of 15 log points.
Jaco Myburgh and Donovan Marais were Maroela's best players, while Francois Erwee excelled for Taaibos.
In Group X, Boekenhout and Sonop are the two unbeaten sides. On May 12, Boekenhout took care of Kiaat (17-2), whilst Sonop have a technical ruling to thank for their 21-19 win against Olienhout.
Referring to this result, Hostel League Manager Conrad Boshoff said all participating teams had signed a code of conduct.
"Hostels know full well want they can and cannot do specifically as far as team selection is concerned. We will make no exceptions in this regard," said Boshoff.
Olienhout and Sonop were not the only teams penalised for breaking the tournament rules, but Olienhout were the only side to lose a match through its indiscretion (the 'first' final score was Olienhout 27, Sonop 26).
The other teams penalised were Kiaat and Zeus.
In Boekenhout's win, Gido Horn and Pierre de Villiers were the two stars, whilst Dolf Janse van Vuuren gave his all for Kiaat.
Sonop's best players were Meiring de Clerq, Salwyn Schutze and Phillip van den Heever. For Olienhout, Richard de Vos, Riaan Swanepoel and Francois Slabbert excelled.
