Nadoes the toast of the Green Mile

Favourites, the Steinhoff Tornadoes, did the job when they hammered Ikhaya 50-0 in the Steinhoff Rugby UCT Internal League Final, whilst last year's winners, the Cobras, beat the Wildboys to claim third spot in a closely-contested battle.

It was a tough season for the boys in the UCT Internal League, but nothing mattered more than reaching the final and getting their hands on the Steinhoff Internal League Cup last Wednesday night.

The evening was festive and spectators came out to back their teams as they did battle on the Green Mile in a bird to win their respective finals.

The Steinhoff Cobras played the Steinhoff Wildboys for third/fourth place.

A confident Cobras XV seemed the stronger team and looked more eager to win, but the Wildboys were not going to lie down without a fight. The Wildboys put up a great performance but fell short to a more experienced and conditioned Cobras outfit who the match 25-17.

The Steinhoff Tornadoes (pictured, above right) contested the final against darkhorses Steinhoff Ikhaya.

The Tornadoes were consistent through the league season and were not prepared to drop their standards in the final.

They emerged with all guns blazing in the finale and blitzed their opponents with five unanswered tries in the first half - nothing held them back as the Ikhaya defence looked ragged throughout on the night.

The second half was all Steinhoff Tornadoes - once again - as the directed play from the restart. The Nadoes eventually won 50-0 and with that became the 2009 Steinhoff UCT Internal League champions!

The other Steinhoff Internal League teams were also in action on the evening in their respective finals; here are ALL the night's results:
