Burch to lead Ikey Tigers
Western Province Vodacom Cup star Jody Burch will captain FNB UCT in their tricky WP Super League clash against Helderberg on Friday afternoon.
Powerhouse Burch will form a potent loose trio with Varsity Cup skipper JJ Gagiano and hard-working flanker Enoch Panya, as the Cape Town students go looking for some valuable league points on the road.
Props Herbert Mayosi and Vakai Hove will provide some extra experience up front, whilst athletic locks Donovan Armand and Michael Passaportis will be looking to get their hands dirty in the absence of German international Bodo 'The Door' Sieber.
Varsity Cup Back of the Tournament Therlow Pietersen will line up at fullback in a potent-looking UCT backline, joining wings Marvin Christians and Pieter Engelbrecht and the exciting centre combination of Dave Edgar and Tim Whitehead.
Matt Rosslee and JP Robert, two Varsity Cup regulars, will form the halfback pairing, with head coach John Dobson giving himself plenty of options by naming a talented bench.
Dobson (pictured) told varsitycup.co.za: "Helderberg away is always a tough ask, but I've selected a side that I hope will get us the points we're looking for.
"Loose forward Nick Fenton-Wells (Man of the Match against Villagers last week) is getting a break this week, and so too are wings Marcello Sampson and Dane Johnson, but we're very determined to go out there and put in a good performance - especially ahead of next week's Intervarsity game at Newlands."
Friday's match gets underway at 4pm, with next weekend's Intervarsity fixture against the Maties serving as the curtain-raiser to the Stormers-Force Super 14 match at Newlands.
