Deadly Ikeys thrash Kraaifontein

FNB UCT claimed a clinical 67-7 WP Super League victory over Kraaifontein at the Green Mile on Wednesday night.

The rampant Ikey Tigers scored 11 tries to one against the visitors, who, themselves, have been in good form of late - boasting wins over Victorians and Villager's.

But the home team never allowed their opponents to settle and they showed outstanding skill to rack up a comfortable 34-0 lead at half-time.

Fullback Therlow Pietersen, the 2009 Varsity Cup Back of the Tournament, led the way with four tries, whilst replacement loose forward Dane Galley showed his superb Sevens skills as he ran in two five-pointers.

Flyhalf Doug Mallett, who once again had a strong game in partnership with Matt Rosslee (inside centre), kicked six conversions and also collected a try.

The rest of UCT's try-scorers were lock Don Armand, winger Marcello Sampson, replacement back Dave Clayton and hard-working loose forward Craig Kleu.

Stand-in coach Kevin Foote - who is deputising for John Dobson - would have been a happy man after Wednesday's performance, but he will not let his team rest on their laurels ahead of Saturday's Southern Suburbs derby against Villager's at Brookside.
