Ikeys back to winning ways

The Ikey Tigers bounced back to form in the 2010 Western Province Super League - recording a 39-15 win over NNK on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers went down 14-29 to the Maties two weeks ago, before drawing at home to SK Walmers last weekend and then losing 14-16 to Villager's this past Wednesday.

However, they made an assured start against NNK on Saturday, running into a 32-3 half-time lead - which was more than enough in the end as coach John Dobson made use of his bench in the second half.

FNB UCT, captained once again by Don Armand, scored six tries in a lively encounter in Parow - a game that took place shortly before the Super 14 semifinal between the Stormers and the Waratahs at Newlands.

Young scrumhalf Nic Groom, who seems to be growing in stature every time he plays for the Ikeys, scored a try double; whilst starting loose forwards Yaya Hartzenberg and Jody Burch and replacement André Goosen also touched down.

Speedster Zubayr Abrahams (pictured, above right) also scored a try for his team, whilst fullback Paul Cohen did the rest with his boot.

Aside from Groom's lively performance, his halfback partner Tiger Bax - back from injury and starting in the No.10 shirt - also had a strong match for the visitors.
