Lewis stars in UJ blitz

FNB UJ fullback Earl Lewis was in fine form as his team romped to a 54-34 win over Impalas in Grand Challenge action on Saturday afternoon.

Lewis, a star during the 2009 FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International, scored two tries and kicked six conversions and one penalty for a match haul of 25 - almost half of his side's points on the day.

Of course, Lewis recently represented the SA Vipers in a Seven-a-side tournament in Tangiers, whilst he was also in fine form as he guided UJ to the Melrose Sevens title at the start of last month.

Captain and outside centre Clinton de Klerk also weighed in with a try double, with UJ's other scores coming from right-wing Hennie Oosthuizen, No.8 Hennie Killian and replacement No.10 Arno Coetzee.

Whilst the backline will no doubt take away all the plaudits - with Lewis leading the charge - according to a report on suparugby.com, the UJ pack was also on fire on the day.

UJ head coach Hugo van As told the website: "You can't play without quality first-phase ball."
