Northampton sign Ikey Tigers star
UCT's Varsity Cup scrumhalf Stuart Commins has signed a two-year deal with Guinness Premiership side Northampton Saints - yet another feather in the cap of this exciting competition.
Commins, 21, is a former Western Province Under-21 star and another genuine product of the very popular FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International tournament.
Having played for UCT in the Varsity Cup since 2008, the Bishops scholar co-captained the Ikey Tigers this past season - which saw them progress to the final where they lost out to the Maties.
"This is a great opportunity for me to improve my game at a top club like Northampton and I'm very thankful for the chance," said Commins, a tactically-astute scrumhalf who also possesses a strong running game.
Commins will be joined in the Saints squad by another young scrumhalf in the shape of Ryan Glynn - as the East Midlands team prepares for another season of Guinness Premiership, Heineken Cup and LV= Cup action.
"Both Ryan and Stuart are ambitious to succeed and eager to show what they can do as players," said Northampton's Director of Rugby, Jim Mallinder.
"They are players with plenty of potential and of course will have plenty to learn. But they have the skills to become very good scrum-halves and we look forward to them developing over the next few years at Franklin's Gardens."
Commins will leave South Africa next month to embark on this exciting new chapter in his career.
