Rampant Ikeys eye third place

The FNB Ikey Tigers continued their march towards third place on the WP Super League log with a huge 67-16 win at Kraaifontein on Saturday.

UCT were simply too strong for their hosts on the day, with the match falling apart a bit in the second half when uncontested scrums were introduced.

But the Ikeys, once again led by German international Bodo 'The Door' Sieber, managed to maintain some structure as they claimed yet another win on the road this season.

Fullback Therlow Pietersen - the top try-scorer in the 2009 Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International - claimed a hat-trick of tries, whilst 'newbies' Matt Page (hooker) and Dougie Mallett (replacement flyhalf) also crossed the whitewash yet again.

Starting No.10 Matt Rosslee, who kicked eight conversions, and fellow first team regulars Dave Clayton, Dave Edgar and Marcello Sampson also touched down for the visitors, who scored nine tries in all.

The students will end their 2009 Super League season against Varsity Cup rivals, FNB Maties, at Groote Schuur on Friday evening.
