Storm halted UJ's momentum

It was never going to be a pretty game with lightning strikes and rain in the air but coach Werner Janse van Rensburg was pleased with the overall performance, even if the scoreline seems closer than what the game actually was.

"We started off well but the delay caused by a lightning strike certainly stopped our momentum and it took a while for us to get going again under the wet conditions. We were forced to work hard and grind but thankfully we came out with a positive result, although, I feel the scoreline could have been different.

"We knocked the ball on over the try line and were held up short, so if those instances went our way, we could have secured a bonus point as well but that's how it goes sometimes. I am pleased that we showed intent and willingness to run the ball throughout the match.

"Obviously the tempo of the match changed when the rain began to fall and the handling errors began to pile up but that is something that is expected in slippery conditions," Janse van Rensburg told rugby365.com.

Despite the poor conditions, he believes his side displayed a pleasing performance although they are far from the perfect product.

"Taking everything into account, we were good at scrum time, our line-outs were well executed and our tactical kicking was just as impressive. However, we still have plenty to improve on and are far from perfect but, overall, I'm satisfied," he added.

UJ will be without the services of fullback Ronald Brown, who picked up a big knock to his ribs and will be out of action for a few weeks.
