UCT made to work by NNK
FNB UCT, playing their final WP Super League match of the first half of the season, recorded a hard-fought 22-19 win over a determined NNK side at the Green Mile on Friday evening.
The hosts scored three fantastic tries, through winger Marcello Sampson (pictured) and flanker Craig Kleu, but they were unable to 'put away' their plucky visitors - and also failed to claim that crucial four-try bonus point in the process.
Ikeys flyhalf Matt Rosslee kicked one conversion and one penalty; the latter eventually sealing the win for the students, who - despite their overall dominance - very nearly ended up drawing the match.
UCT welcomed back prop Dylan Rogers from injury in the second half, but now have a few weeks off before their 2009 Super League campaign resumes.
The Ikeys, who went down to Pukke in the 2009 Varsity Cup semifinals, are in fourth place on the WP Super League log, trailling Victorians on points' difference only and they do also have a game in hand over the Stellenbosch second team.
