UJ choose for Alberton clash

FNB UJ have announced their side for Saturday's Grand Challenge meeting with Alberton.

UJ - who finished fifth on the 2009 FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International log - have been in good form during the league season, having also recently won the Melrose Sevens tournament in Scotland.

Head coach Hugo van As is without star fullback Earl Lewis, but he has still been able to select a host of Varsity Cup representatives in his backline; Itumeleng Mogotsi, Clinton de Klerk, JJ Pienaar and André Smith.

Up front, Edgar Maruthlulle will wear the No.2 jersey - another familiar face from the Varsity Cup; be it from the bench, or as a starting player - with Sisa Mafu another man to watch at the back of the UJ scrum.

First team regulars, Edrich 'Trekker' van Tonder (wing), Arno Coetzee (flyhalf), scrumhalf Jaco 'Haas' Snyman, lock Andries Nel and prop Charl du Plessis, will all start Saturday's match on the bench, with coach Van As no doubt keeping half an eye on next week's crucial clash against Pirates.

The UJ team: 15 Itumeleng Mogotsi, 14 Weagan Pekeur, 13 Clinton de Klerk, 12 JJ Pienaar, 11 Hennie Ooshuizen, 10 André Smith, 9 Janis Terblanche, 8 Sisa Mafu, 7 JP Janse van Rensburg, 6 Julian Erasmus, 5 Martyn Lombard, 4 Lehan Koekemoer, 3 Jaco Claasens, 2 Edgar Maruthlulle, 1 Zander Swart.
Replacements: 16 Leon Venter, 17 Charl du Plessis, 18 Andries Nel, 19 Yannich Wombo, 20 Jaco Snyman, 21 Arno Coetzee, 22 Edrich van Tonder.

Head coach: Hugo van As
