Red card hearing for Williams

Samoa fullback Paul Williams will have his red card hearing in Auckland on Saturday, after he was sent packing for striking South African flank Heinrich Brüssow in the face during Friday's World Cup Pool D game.

The incident happened 10 minutes from time with the spiteful Samoans battling hard and going down 5-13.

Brüssow tried desperately to free himself from Williams' grasp well away from the ball - one of several unsavoury incident in a game where the Samoan's off-the-ball intent was blatant - and the No.15 got off the ground to strike him in the face.

The case will be heard by the Independent Judicial Officer Christopher Quinlan of England.

Williams was the first player at this World Cup to get a straight red card sending off.

Several Samoan players later whinged about the refereeing of Welshman Nigel Owens as they lost to the defending champions and crashed out of the World Cup.
