USA win away qualifier

The USA won the first leg of their qualifier with Uruguay when they beat their hosts 27-22 in Montevideo and this take a five-point lead into the second leg in Florida next week.

The score did not flatter the Eagles who scored four tries to one, led 13-3 at half-time and 27-6 well into the second half and then had to fight off a fightback by the Teros.

Afterwards, Eddie O'Sullivan, the Eagles' coach said: “We are happy to win. But, honestly a bit disappointed that we gave up so many points in the last quarter. We would have liked to walk away with a larger point spread, but in the end are happy to take away the victory.”

After half-time Junior Sifa and Alipate Tuilevuka scored tries for the USA but then the Eagles conceded penalties and the boot of Jerónimo Etcheverry punished them as the Uruguay forwards got more and more on top.
