Advantage Russia

Russia holds the advantage over Uruguay for the final place in Pool A at the World Cup after a pulsating first leg qualifier.

The match was played in freezing conditions which made it tough for both sides to play an expansive game and it came down to a kicking battle as the flyhalves kicked 12 penalties between them.

Russia's loosehead prop Grigory Tsobiladze scored the only try of the match which proved decisive as the home side edged their opponents 22-21.

The second leg takes place in Montevideo on October 11.

The winner of this two-legged qualifier will join England, Australia, Wales and Fiji in Pool A of the competition.
